Last Friday, my brother and I were blessed with a rare and possibly fleeting opportunity to film Pan Am Railways' Maine Central EMD GP40 #319 in Peabody, Massachusetts. Sadly, aside from the MBTA's Newburyport/Rockport Line, virtually all of the train tracks in the North Shore area have been abandoned for at least fifteen years. The tracks you see in this video are the remnants of the Salem and Lowell, Essex, and South Reading Branch Railroads, and, as you can see, they're barely a step above being abandoned themselves. These tracks see an average of one locomotive every one to two weeks, as the only local customers are Eastman Gelatine Corporation and Univar USA. What you'll see here is some Orange Line action with the 01200 series cars operating in and out of State Station. Here, you can transfer over to the Blue Line which runs between Bowdin and Wonderland Stations.

Welcome aboard MBTA Neoplan AN440LF Trackless Trolley #4120 as it operates on Route 71 from Watertown Square to Harvard Station. 4120 is one of 28 Trackless Trolleys purchased by MBTA in 2004 and has the distinction of being the first and only batch of Neoplan Trackless Trolleys in North America.
A new report by AECOM and A Better City, sponsored by the Boston Foundation and the Barr Foundation, finds that investments in Greater Boston’s legacy public transit system remain the best option for the continued growth of the Greater Boston economy. The report, The Transportation Dividend: Transit Investments and the Massachusetts Economy, takes a look at the economic benefits and value of the current Greater Boston transit system, and lays out a three-part proposal for investments in the 20 “inner core” communities and regional transit spokes that can further enhance the Massachusetts economy. After the report presentation, a panel discussion explored some of the key areas of opportunity and biggest challenges to bring the MBTA to a higher standard of service and consistency.
